SPECIAL NEW EVENT:  SQUASH TOURNAMENT

The Weekend of a Lifetime  When we were younger and going to Reunion, we used to arrive in time for dinner on Friday night.  Now, perhaps because the camaraderie is sweeter, we don't tarry;  we get right on the road, or the train, or the plane on Thursday morning, or even the day before, and by lunchtime, we will have found our tent and will have settled in.  The 50th always gets it pick of accommodations, and some of the new dorms are Four Seasonish (compared to what we might remember from Frosh Week) thanks to today's cutthroat competition for students, the best and the brightest, you know. We will have donned our Carnelian Cornell 58 vests, and we'll be greeting
our chums.  The committee wants us to know that it’s not a competition, but there will be an award for those who arrive by 2 p.m. Thursday – a free lunch (who said there’s no such thing?).  Lobster salad, a baguette and some runny cheese, and the Muscadet will flow.  Be There!

Memories   Reunion events.  With the understanding that venues and times, even days, can change, here is some of what we will experience together.  Dates and times will run together.  Images will remain.  That’s how it will stay in memory.  Reception and dinner under tent.  Music of the ‘Fifties.  A jukebox of favorites.  The Sherwoods.  A piano.  A panel addressing a serious issue that stirs passion, Security vs. Freedom in the U.S.; a forum that offers opinion, but also information and logic while inviting participation.  Late night Ice cream Social in the tent. The Sherwoods.  A wine tasting.  Johnny Russo. Big band plus dance floor on the quad.  Back to the quad for lunch with designated professors and students.  Cornelliana night at Bailey Hall, newly restored and gleaming.  The Sherwoods.  Creativity at Any Age, the Class Forum that will be illuminated by our own Jennifer Tipton, one of the world's premier lighting designers. Jennifer, with a concentration in dance, theatre and opera has been at the top of her profession for years, and we will sit transfixed, letting art wash over us.  The Treman concert with the Hangovers singing in the arboretum amphitheater and bringing tears to our eyes with their melodies.  The Sherwoods.  Britt Stitt at the late night piano.  Teary farewells after the farewell brunch.

Being There -- You won't be sorry  But you knew that.  This weekend won't come back.  You know you'll love it.  Or, if you're not sure, take a chance; you won't regret it.  That's the committee's promiseNothing could be more important.  For all of us.
